I know what it's like to feel trapped. Trapped in a career you don't want, a relationship of convenience, the meatloaf is always overcooked. But you are only trapped or overcooked if YOU allow yourself to be.
You know it's true. And you know it's not easy. The easy part is to do nothing about and just be angry and miserable about things and pass blame or judgment or at a minimum ignore it like a bad stomach ache. "Maybe if I just stay in bed it will all go away…"
Well guess what? When you wake up the career is now less a career and more like (ugh) a job. The relationship of convenience is just a U-Haul away. And the overcooked meatloaf? You remember Ramen noodles? So get over it and get after it.
Wake up. It's Monday. And here are some things to go with Venti Soy Latte and your two Bavarian Cremes from Dunkin Donuts. (Blatant product beg, Jon Luther!)
1. Words to live by are just that – words – unless you live by them. So if you plan to 'do something about your current situation' start planning today. That means either decide to engage in the career you have and determine whether you are willing to put in effort to put your left foot in or don't let the door hit you on the way out. YOU decide based on how you manage your thoughts, which control your behaviors and attitude which in turn become word that are alive.
2. Values are all we have – they are our internal currency. If you want to lead a life a certain way. Be a woman of honor and integrity. A man of purpose and empathy. A person who is always moving forward because of their own calling and not not blaming others when the 'promise' lives on unfulfilled. Then you are true to your values. Once compromised, it's worthless, meaningless. You are compromised. YOU control the values you want to live by and honor. If you value happiness. Then don't give away your bank!
3. We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their actions. WHOA! Intention does not mean anything. It's like being close in horseshoes. Intention if you look at the origin in the Latin intentio means to 'stretch purpose'. Looky there – there's that word again. PURPOSE.
But intentions are stretching it not delivering it, yet we will judge
others by their action. I say we put a stop to that right now. You want
to live a life of your dreams, measure it by your actions, not what you
intend it to be. My definition of intend? It-never-ends…
4. Good things happen when they make them happen. It's not likely that you are going to sit on the couch eating Boston Creme Dunkin Donuts (see how I did this) watching cartoons and a million dollars will magically appear. Or your business that you started a year ago will get better even though you are still fighting with th landlord over who will spend the $200 for the extra lights. No good things happen when we focus our energy, our mental acuity, and our behaviors to drive to a positive result. And YOU are the one that makes them happen.
You control more than you give yourself credit for. But that also means you also have more responsibility than you realize. But the good news is your in charge.
So leave the stompin' in the school yard.
listen. learn. share. repeat.
